Breast size is an important factor for many women. If you are unhappy with your breast size, augmentation surgery is something to be considered.
This surgery can increase your breasts’ size and improve their shape, improving the balance of your body contour, and often improve your self-view and confidence. Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, the procedure involves the use of implants to give you the appearance of bigger breasts or restore the lost breast volume after weight loss or pregnancy. Implants may also be used to rebuild the breast after a mastectomy or injury.
The most common incisions are made between the breasts, near the armpits, or around the areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple). The insertion of implants below the thoracic wall muscle or immediately behind the mammary tissue creates the desired volume.
This procedure is often done using epidural anesthesia with sedation, but general anesthesia may be recommended.
The implants may need to be replaced: it is important to know that mammary implants are not meant to last your whole life. You should schedule a yearly examination to see if your implants need to be replaced.
